Church Teaching on SSA

Some simple points on the Catholic teaching on Same Sex Attrations:

• All are sinners. We all sin in different ways. Our desire toward sin is not in itself a sin. Therefore, having an attraction toward someone of the same sex is not itself a sin.
• Sexuality is one aspect of who we are, and does not define us.
• Sinful acts do not define us.
• God asks of all people the same thing: He wants our heart and soul to be His. Everything else should be secondary.
• Sexual relationships are designed by God for unity and procreation. All sexual activity should be within a marital covenant to support the hidden image of the unity of the couple, and should be opened and geared toward procreation. Any sexual relationship that does not do this is not ordered toward God, and is therefore sinful.
• The Catholic Church has the graces necessary to overcome our desires, and to resist temptation, through prayer, community and the sacraments.
• Acting on Same Sex Attraction is sinful, just as premarital sexual relations, contraceptive use, cheating, lying, and any other wrong ordered action.
• The Church desires relationship with those with Same Sex Attraction, desires to minister to and with them, and desires that they frequent the sacraments.
