Why did you become a Seminarian? The short answer is that I believe God told me to. I have always had an appreciation for the priesthood ever since I have been young, and leading up to my time in college, I had thoughts of joining the seminary but determined it wasn’t for me. That changed when I began spending more time in the church, developed my prayer life, and tried to follow where my heart was leading me. The feeling of authentic love I felt while pursuing Christ is something I can’t explain. Following that love deeply rooted in Christ and walking through the doors that have opened in front of me have led me to wish to do whatever He asks of me. That has led me to become a Seminarian.
Who is your favorite Saint and why? St. Clement of Rome has a very special place in my heart. It was a clear case where I did not choose him, but he chose me. His example in the early church to give his whole self for Christ even to death is as real as a love you can have. He introduced himself into my life at a pivotal and convenient time that helped guide me closer to Christ.
What are some of your favorite hobbies? I find myself enjoying a wide range of activities such as fishing, hunting, sailing on my sailboat, and working on classic cars. I also have an interest In music, playing my violin every chance I get as my main instrument. Trying to learn more is also a fun challenge
What advice would you give to someone discerning the priesthood? Follow your heart and the opportunities given to you by God, and especially spend as much time as you can with Christ. Sitting in an empty chapel or church silently praying with Him is one of the best ways to get to know Him. I am a firm believer that Christ is there in the silence. All we have to do is listen. From there we can discern what He wants for us.
